What do I need to get a truck insurance quote?
At minimum: your USDOT and MC number, each driver's date of birth and license number, VINs for every truck and trailer, how your miles split by distance, and what you haul. If you've had your own policy before, add loss runs from every insurer for the last 3 to 5 years.
Why do loss runs have to be recent?
Loss runs are your claims history, and underwriters want a current picture. Many want them dated within about 30 days, so request fresh ones from each insurer before you shop.
Why does an underwriter need my drivers' license photos?
The license number runs the MVR, and the photo shows the issue date, which helps prove driving experience. If a license was renewed recently, an older license or an MVR showing the original issue date proves the rest.
How long does a truck insurance quote take?
With everything on this list ready, many quotes come back within a few days. Most delays come from missing information: an old loss run, a missing VIN, a driver with no date of birth on file.
I'm a new authority. What changes?
You won't have loss runs or IFTA history yet, so underwriters lean on your drivers' experience and your plans. Clean MVRs and proof of CDL experience matter more than anything else on the file.
Do I need my declarations page or certificate to get quoted?
No. Those prove what you have now, but an underwriter quoting you new coverage works from the items on this checklist.
